The University’s commitment to diversity, seeking and supporting a multicultural staff, faculty, and student body, is one of the institution’s greatest assets. Such a diverse community has allowed the university to infuse its academic programs and extracurricular activities with a wealth of diverse expressions and ideas.
To support this, the newly appointed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEI) in 2021 started to investigate community resources to create a slate of programs encouraging conversations to build an awareness and understanding of DEI issues. One of those initiatives is a DIVERSITY TALK.
SSU’s “Diversity Talks” is a 2021 initiative from SSU’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee with the purpose of bringing together staff, faculty, and students from different backgrounds and interests within the University to talk openly about issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
We celebrate this initiative with two completed talks from recent months:
- July 2022: “Managing Team Dynamics in the Workplace”, by Dr. Tammi Gray, Management Consultant
- December 2021: “Women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math)”, by Dr. Claudia Araiza, Economist/Higher Ed Administrator (SSU Chancellor)
