Rep. Salud Carbajal, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 24th district, has expressed concerns over recent immigration enforcement activities by ICE on the Central Coast. In a series of tweets posted on January 27, 2025, Carbajal addressed these issues and their implications for local communities.

In his first tweet, Rep. Carbajal stated that while he and his team are still awaiting more details about ICE's actions over the weekend, he harbors "deep concerns given President Trump’s months of extremist rhetoric on mass deportations and its potential impact on our region." "While my team and I are still awaiting more details on ICE’s enforcement activity on the Central Coast this weekend, I have deep concerns given President Trump’s months of extremist rhetoric on mass deportations and its potential impact on our region."

In a subsequent tweet posted at the same time, Carbajal encouraged families to be cautious and informed about their legal rights amidst ongoing policies from the Trump Administration. He wrote: "As I continue to fight against extremist policies and actions taken by the Trump Administration, I encourage families to be cautious and aware to know their legal rights: https://t.co/6dCUk9TbpA"

Further elaborating his stance in another tweet from January 27, 2025, Carbajal criticized the approach of instilling fear within communities as ineffective for addressing immigration system issues. He remarked that targeting individuals who contribute positively does not aid community betterment but rather spreads fear among families in the region. "Instilling fear in our communities is no way to fix our immigration system, and the potential targeting of people who’ve positively contributed to our nation for years does nothing but drive fear into families across our region who do nothing but make our community better."
