CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO: UPDATE: Orcutt Road North of Orcutt/Tank Farm Closed to Through Traffic

Road

City of San Luis Obispo issued the following announcement on Feb. 18.

Updated on 2/18/2022 at 9:51a.m.: Due to unforeseen scheduling delays, Phase 3 of the Orcutt/Tank Farm Roundabout project will begin on Mar. 7, instead of Feb. 22.

Updated on 2/7/2022 at 8:45 a.m.: Phase III of the Orcutt/Tank Farm Roundabout has been pushed back to begin Feb. 22, instead of Feb. 8, due to COVID-19 related issues.

Updated on 1/31/2022 at 9:45 a.m.: More details are provided below about the upcoming closure of Orcutt Road as part of the Orcutt/Tank Farm Roundabout construction project, including construction work hours.

A portion of Orcutt Road north of Tank Farm Road intersection will close to through traffic for about two and half months starting Tuesday, Feb. 22, officially starting the third phase of the Tank Farm and Orcutt Road roundabout project.

Residents will have access to their driveways and detour routes on the northern and southern segments of Orcutt Road. This phase of construction work will last for about two and half months, with work occurring from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some nightwork may occur on an as-needed basis from 8 p.m. from 5 a.m. Monday through Friday. This segment of Orcutt Road will be closed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through the anticipated construction duration of two months and half months.

Installation of this roundabout is a high-priority transportation project that aligns with both the City of San Luis Obispo’s “roundabouts first” policy and two major city goals (sustainable transportation and housing). The City prioritizes roundabouts as a first-priority solution where intersection control upgrades are warranted because they reduce injury collisions, maintenance costs over time, traffic delays, and greenhouse gas emissions. This project will also create the infrastructure needed to support housing construction in the area.

During this time, Tank Farm Rd., which has been closed since September for construction, will be reopened to again provide east/west access as well as restoring access to the Islay Hill Playground parking lot.

Souza Engineering Contracting Inc. and Cannon construction management will be working with the City and other project partners to ensure that temporary road closures and detours run as smoothly as possible. Construction of the roundabout is expected to continue through May of 2022.
