Refreshed Website, New Mobile App for City of SLO

San Luis Obispo community members can enjoy two new modern ways to access City services and information online and on smartphones.

The City recently refreshed its website design and developed a new online platform and mobile app called Ask SLO to provide community members on all devices with access to City services and information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“Our hope is that community members can more easily connect with online City services and information using a computer, smartphone or tablet,” said Whitney Szentesi, City Public Communications Manager. “Our website serves as our digital front desk, but the design had become a bit outdated. With this refresh, we're providing the community with a sense of place, important public information, details about public meeting and events, and more.”

In the past 20 years, the City’s website has been redesigned several times, and the last full website redesign was completed in 2015. In September 2022, the City refreshed its website design and published its new Ask SLO mobile app to easily connect people who live, work, and attend school in San Luis Obispo, as well as visitors and anyone who may be interested in moving here, with online City services and public information. New website features include a “Find a Service” tool on every page, a scrolling home page, and the new centralized resident engagement platform called Ask SLO.

Anyone can use Ask SLO to report issues or request services through a new resident engagement platform either via the City’s website or by downloading the mobile app via the Apple App Store or Google Play. If emergency police or fire services are needed, please call 9-1-1. If other non-emergency police or fire services are needed, please call Non-Emergency Dispatch at (805) 781-7312.

“Now residents who have questions or want to report issues in City limits can easily just Ask SLO via the mobile app or online at www.slocity.org/Ask,” Szentesi said. “We encourage anyone to use this streamlined resource. When someone submits a request or makes a report via Ask SLO, they will get the status of their request through updates from City staff either via email or the app itself.”

The City is building Ask SLO in phases and welcomes community feedback as staff works on improvements.

  • Phase 1 (September 2022): Frequently Asked Questions and service requests related to City Clerk, Community Development, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, and Utilities services.
  • Phase 2 (October 2022): Frequently Asked Questions and service requests related to Police and Fire services.
  • Phase 3 (November 2022): Frequently Asked Questions and service requests related to City Administration & IT, City Attorney, Finance, and Human Resources services.
If you have any questions about the Ask SLO tool or how it works, please reach out to Rebecca Bernstorff, Business Manager of the City’s Community Services Group at rbernstorff@slocity.org.
