City of San Luis Obispo issued the following announcement on Apr. 27.
The Sinsheimer Park Tennis Courts just became more accessible to everyone with a new smooth, paved pathway that makes getting to and from the parking lot easier. There is also a new hydration station nearby for easy refills for your reusable water bottle.
These improvements were made possible by the Local Revenue Measure, a 1.5% local sales tax approved by City voters in November 2020.
The upgrades are in line with Major City Goals related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (by making the courts more welcoming to all – including community members using a wheelchair or other mobility device) and related to climate action (by encouraging the use of reusable water bottles to reduce single-use plastic water bottles).
In March, the City set out to upgrade and improve the damaged pathway leading from a nearby parking lot to the courts. The previous concrete pathway and brick entrance in front of the tennis courts at Sinsheimer Park was damaged by tree roots, creating an uneven surface and making it difficult to get to and from the courts. This project created a smooth path that can be used by community members of all abilities.
