Shop Local This Holiday Season and Get a Gift Card

Starting on Friday, November 25, anyone who spends $100 at San Luis Obispo retail businesses can get a $25 gift card to another local business, while supplies last.

To redeem a gift card, spend $100 or more on retail purchases at any San Luis Obispo business and bring  a copy of your itemized receipt(s) to the San Luis Obispo Visitor Center. Participants can then choose between available gift cards. This program will continue until funds are exhausted and shoppers can qualify up to three times before Christmas Eve.

“We’re committed to reinvesting in the community by bringing Buy Local Bonus back this year,” said City Manager Derek Johnson. “This is a great way to show your love of San Luis Obispo and support small businesses here. Shop local, shop small, support our community, and get rewarded.”

The City of San Luis Obispo and San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce are partnering for the third consecutive year this holiday season on Buy Local Bonus, a program created in 2020 to give back to businesses hardest hit by the COVID pandemic. The City is purchasing gift cards from local businesses to create an incentive to shop local and support SLO’s economic vitality.

“Injecting money into our local economy is critical to small business success,” said Jim Dantona, President/CEO of the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce. “The hundreds of thousands of dollars spent locally through this program will support our doers and dreamers, and  help small businesses thrive this holiday season.”

Buy Local Bonus | November 25-December 24, 2022 (while supplies last)Shoppers can participate up to three separate times by spending $300+ between November 25 and December 24, 2022. Unlike previous years, only receipts from businesses that sell retail goods qualify for Buy Local Bonus. In the spirit of shopping small, receipts from the following business types do not qualify: Big box retailers, restaurants, convenience and drug stores, grocery stores and supermarkets, lodging businesses, and fueling or gas stations.

Eat Local Bonus | January 2 through January 31, 2023 (while supplies last)While purchases made on food or drinks are not eligible for the Buy Local Bonus program, we’ve got you covered in January. To support local eateries, breweries, bakeries and coffee shops, the City is starting a brand new program called Eat Local Bonus. From January 2 through January 31, 2023, diners who spend $100 at any food or beverage establishment will be eligible for a $25 gift card.
