City of Clovis issued the following announcement on May 17.

This morning, May 17, 2022, just after 3:00 A.M., an officer noticed the driver of a red Toyota car run a stop sign at Gettysburg/Helm. The driver refused to pull over, and a short pursuit began. During the pursuit, the driver drove into on-coming traffic on Ashlan near Minnewawa, and the pursuit was called off due to safety concerns. A short time later, officers saw the same car near Shaw/Minnewawa, and tried to pull over, however the driver failed to stop, again purposely driving into on-coming traffic on Bullard near Minnewawa. Officers called off the pursuit due to the driver’s reckless actions, however they located it again a short time later near Shaw/Willow. The pursuit ended in Fresno near Shaw/6th where the driver finally pulled over and was arrested without further incident. Thankfully, no one was injured during this incident.

The driver was identified as 24-year-old Joseph Daggs of Fresno. Daggs was booked into Fresno County Jail where he currently remains for multiple charges, including driving into opposing traffic while evading officers, and driving a vehicle in a willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property. Daggs’ vehicle was also impounded.

A booking photo of the suspect is not being posted due to California’s AB 1475.
