Volunteer sign

City of San Luis Obispo issued the following announcement on Dec. 9.

Volunteers are needed for January’s Point in Time Count (PIT), our community’s opportunity to conduct comprehensive counts on the local population experience homelessness.

Anyone with a smartphone, a vehicle, and the motivation to do important work is encouraged to volunteer. All volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Volunteers will be asked to work in teams and drive all assigned routes on Jan. 26, 2022 from about 5 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Register online to volunteer now.

Thousands of volunteers are needed to gather accurate data which in turn informs critical resources in terms of funding, programming, and overall strategy to prevent and reduce instances of homelessness. San Luis Obispo County organizes its PIT Count every two years as part of a nationwide effort to count and survey people experiencing homelessness over a single night. The PIT Count allows cities, counties, and states to better understand how many people are experiencing homelessness, who is most affected by homelessness, and what kind of assistance they are receiving.
