Vanessa McManus and Charish Thompson each reached double figures in scoring, but the Cal Poly women’s basketball team was defeated 96–64 by Cal State Fullerton in their Big West Conference opener on Thursday at Mott Athletics Center.

Cal State Fullerton took control early, leading 27–17 after the first quarter and maintaining their advantage throughout the game. The Titans shot 49 percent from the field and made 23 of 27 free throws. Their consistent offensive efficiency helped them build a sizable lead.

McManus led Cal Poly with 19 points, making two three-pointers and converting five of six free-throw attempts. Thompson added 18 points and went a perfect ten for ten at the line. Despite these individual performances, Cal Poly had difficulty stopping Fullerton’s transition offense and inside scoring.
