CAL POLY ATHLETICS: Mustangs Bolster Backline With Addition of Aynsley Conner

Soccer

Cal Poly Athletics issued the following announcement on May 31.

The Cal Poly women's soccer program bolstered its backline with the recent announcement that defender Aynsley Conner will be joining the team for the upcoming season.

Conner (Loomis, Calif.) is a sophomore transfer from the University of Minnesota and will have three years of eligibility left beginning this fall.

A 2021 grad of Granite Bay High, Conner appeared in two games for the Gophers this past season and scored her first collegiate goal in a 5-0 victory over Illinois on Oct. 14, 2021.

"We are excited to add Aynsley to our team in the fall," 30th-year head coach Alex Crozier said. "She has a year of experience and a very high soccer IQ. We are looking forward to seeing the impact she will have in our program."

Conner, who is majoring in Psychology, played for Placer United SC in Rocklin from 2015-21 and was a team captain from 2017-21, helping the squad claim the State Cup Championship in 2016. An all-league center back at Granite Bay, Conner helped propel the Grizzlies to a 10-0 season in Sierra Foothill League play in 2021 and the league championship.

Conner has ties to Cal Poly. Her mother, Cathie Cardoza Conner, was a member of the Mustang women's soccer team during the program's inaugural season in 1992 and played for Crozier, the team's only head coach, for three years. She was also a significant donor to the project to renovate the Slover Center for Sports Medicine in 2017.

Conner is the seventh member of Cal Poly's 2022 incoming class, joining forwards Caylie Button (Ventura, Calif./LAFC So Cal) and Emily Lieber (El Dorado Hills, Calif./San Juan SC Spirits); midfielders Brennan Cole (Woodland Hills, Calif./LA Breakers FC) and Sophia Minnite (Pleasanton, Calif./Pleasanton Rage), defender Camryn Penn (Foster City, Calif./Bay Area Surf) and goalkeeper Riley Wilkerson (San Luis Obispo, Calif./Central Coast United SC).
