Southern California University Of Health Sciences issued the following announcement on Apr. 19.

Five Southern California University of Health Sciences Ayurveda faculty and one SCU Ayurveda alumna will be presenting at the 2022 National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA) Conference – Ayurveda for Family Health, from April 22-25, 2022. The 2022 NAMA conference will be a hybrid format with in-person attendees gathering in Tucson, Arizona for live events, livestreamed for remote attendees, and will also be accessible, on-demand.

NAMA represents the Ayurvedic profession in the U.S. Its mission is to preserve, protect, promote and advance the consciousness-based philosophy, knowledge, science and practice of Ayurveda for the benefit of all beings.

The 18th annual NAMA Conference will feature the following SCU Ayurveda experts who will present on a variety of Ayurvedic topics:

Anupama Kizhakkeveettil headshotAnupama Kizhakkeveettil, BAMS, MAOM, L.Ac, FAIHM, Ph.D., SCU Program Director for Ayurvedic Medicine, will moderate “Preventative Practices for Children in Ayurveda.” This presentation will discuss Ayurveda’s approach to maximizing children’s well-being through daily habits, food choices, and exercise practices as the essence of disease prevention and optimization of health in a child’s life.

Dr. Anu and colleagues will also be presenting “Ayurveda and Preventative Care for Geriatric Health,” discussing sustainable approaches to promote graceful aging in daily routines, food, herbs, and physical movements that are specifically designed to empower older adults to thrive. Dr. Anu and fellow experts will advise Ayurvedic practitioners on the in-depth understanding needed of the unique challenges confronting this population, for successful intervention and treatment.

Jayagopal Parla

Jayagopal Parla, BAMS, MD (Ayurveda), MAOM, FAIHM, and colleagues will present “Herbs for Family Health,” where they will discuss how to use readily available herbs and spices to maintain health and simple formulations for common imbalances such as indigestion, coughs and colds, insomnia, and oral hygiene issues.

Manjusha Vinjamury

Manjusha Vinjamury, BAMS, MAOM, MD (Ayurveda), FAIHM, and colleagues will present “Pediatric Immunological and Hypersensitivity Disorders,” where they will discuss common allergies, asthma, and skin disorders in the pediatric population and how they can be linked as an atopic triad. He’ll discuss connections between imbalances, explore their sources and offer Ayurvedic management principles to address them.

Bharathi Venkatachalpathy

Bharathi Venkatachalpathy, BAMS, FAIHM, and colleagues, will present “Integrative Approaches to Stress and Anxiety,” discussing how stress and anxiety are catalysts for impaired functioning on both mental and physical levels. They will explore the aspects of modern-day living that factor into these conditions, and provide essential guidance on how to best support clients suffering from anxiety- and stress-related disorders and when referrals may be necessary.

Naomi Boas

Naomi Boas, MA, AP, SCU Health Faculty; Kadiatou Sibi, AP, SCU Ayurvedic Practitioner Certificate Class of 2021, and colleagues will present “NAMA VEDATalks, Why We Do What We Do: Stories From Your Ayurvedic Colleagues,” where they will share their Ayurvedic journeys to inspire, encourage and help Ayurvedic professionals learn more about the scopes of practice from around the country.

Kadiatou Sibi

The conference recordings will be available to purchase as individual videos, or as a package, from NAMA.
