CHABOT-LAS POSITAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT: Las Positas College to Honor Veterans with Nov. 11 Observance Featuring David S. Maurer

Chabot-Las Positas Community College District recently issued the following announcement.

-Las Positas College invites the community to its annual Veterans Day Observance, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11. Professor, Dr. Jim Ott will share excerpts from student Veterans writing in his class, followed by keynote speaker, US Retired Lt. Col. David S. Maurer, sharing his experience serving in the US military.

Featured speaker David S. Maurer - Lt. Col US Army (Ret.) served 22 years in the US Army in a wide variety of command and staff positions, both in the United States and overseas. His service included tours within the intelligence community and on the Joint Staff in the Pentagon, culminating as the Adjutant General for the United States Military Academy at West Point. Mr. Maurer offers a wealth of experience as both a career military officer and a senior leader within the private sector. Among other career achievements, he led the nation's largest career transition training program spanning all 50 states, 15 countries and 2 U.S. territories in support of the Labor Department and the U.S. military training over 1.3 million service members and spouses

The Veterans Day Observance is sponsored by Las Positas College Veterans First Program which provides Veterans with services and resources to help them achieve their educational goals. During the past academic year, more than 500 veterans, reserve/guard or active duty military personnel were enrolled at the college.

Attendees may enter into a free drawing for David S. Maurer signed book, "Leadership Essentials - How to Lead with Passion, Pride and Purpose."

Veterans support services include a Veterans Resource Center, full-time program coordinator and full-time Veterans counselor, priority registration, a text book borrowing program, a study/drop-in subject support, work-study program, an active Student Veteran Organization, and other programs and services for Veterans, Active Duty, Reservists/Guard, and dependents/spouses of Veterans.
