Salud Carbajal, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 24th district since 2017, has recently addressed several pressing issues through his social media posts. Carbajal, who succeeded Lois Capps and previously served on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, shared insights on legislative efforts, personal losses, and critiques of current policies.
On May 20, 2025, Carbajal reflected on the tenth anniversary of the Refugio oil spill by announcing new legislation aimed at preventing future spills. “As we reflect on 10 years since the Refugio oil spill that devastated our coastline,” he stated, expressing pride in reintroducing legislation alongside Rep. Brownley to safeguard communities from similar incidents.
The following day, May 21, 2025, Carbajal expressed sorrow over the death of Gerry Connolly. He wrote, “I’m heartbroken to hear of the passing of my friend, Gerry Connolly.” He described Connolly as a dedicated public servant for Virginia’s 11th district and emphasized his legacy of service and commitment to justice.
On May 22, 2025, Carbajal criticized a bill proposed by House Republicans that he believes will negatively impact millions of Americans. In his tweet, he questioned whether it could be considered a “beautiful bill” given its potential consequences: “Nearly 14 million Americans will lose their health care. Nearly 11 million Americans will lose their food assistance.”
Carbajal was born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and currently resides in Santa Barbara. He holds a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
