Rep. Salud Carbajal, who represents California’s 24th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to address significant historical and political topics, including the abolition of slavery, Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, and trade policies affecting American farmers.
On December 7, 2025, Carbajal marked the anniversary of the end of slavery in the United States by posting: “On this day in 1865, the 13th Amendment abolished slavery in the United States, a first step in the long fight for equality for Black Americans. We must never forget the horrors of slavery and must always reject every attempt to erase this shameful chapter of American history.”
Later that same day, he commemorated Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day with another post: “On Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we remember the Americans who were killed on December 7, 1941, and honor the heroes who served with courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy. We remain forever grateful to the veterans who answered the call in the days and years that followed.”
On December 9, 2025, Carbajal addressed agricultural issues related to recent U.S. trade policy: “Trump created this problem with his reckless trade war, which shut our producers out of global markets, drove up their costs, and left family farms struggling. Farmers deserve stable markets and real leadership.”
Carbajal has served as a member of Congress since 2017 after replacing Lois Capps. Prior to his tenure in Washington D.C., he was a member of Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 until 2017. Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and now residing in Santa Barbara at age 58, Carbajal graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara with a Bachelor’s degree in 1990.
