Rep. Salud Carbajal, who represents California’s 24th district in the U.S. Congress, highlighted several recent developments affecting his constituency in a series of posts on social media between May 29 and May 30, 2026.
On May 29, Carbajal praised young artists from the Central Coast for their participation in an annual event: “Every year, I look forward to the Congressional Art Competition and am always impressed by the talent of the student artists on the Central Coast. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Sophie Dawes! Her piece, ‘The Human Butterfly,’ will now be displayed in the U.S. Capitol” (May 29, 2026).
Later that day, Carbajal criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to clean energy policy: “It is no secret that Donald Trump has done everything he can to kill the clean energy industry — now he’s using taxpayer dollars to do it. That’s why I’m joining my colleagues to demand answers on the payments the President has made to cancel approved offshore wind projects.” (May 29, 2026).
On May 30, Carbajal addressed infrastructure improvements at a local airport: “SLO County Airport welcomed a record number of passengers last year, but the baggage screening system is too outdated to keep up with the growing demand. I secured $2.2 million in federal funding to upgrade the system, and ensure the airport can continue to provide efficient and” (May 30, 2026).
Carbajal has served as U.S. Representative for California’s 24th District since replacing Lois Capps in 2017. Before entering Congress, he was a member of the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 until his election to Congress in 2017. Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and currently residing in Santa Barbara at age 58, Carbajal graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara with a BA in 1990.
