Rep. Salud Carbajal, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 24th district since 2017, shared several significant updates on his social media account regarding recent events affecting the nation.
On July 7, Carbajal highlighted the heroic actions of U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Scott Ruskan. In his post, he noted that “U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Scott Ruskan saved 165 people from the devastating floods in Texas,” adding that this was Ruskan’s first rescue mission and expressing gratitude for his bravery.
The following day, on July 8, Carbajal expressed concern over a major workforce reduction impacting the Veterans Affairs (VA) system. In a tweet, he warned that this reduction “will put additional strain on the already understaffed VA system and the veterans who depend on it,” criticizing the current administration for what he perceives as disrespect toward veterans.
Later that same day, Carbajal commented on former President Donald Trump’s trade policies. He remarked in another tweet that “TACO Trump is now delaying his own tariff deadline,” criticizing these actions as destabilizing global markets and negatively impacting jobs and prices.
Salud Carbajal, originally from Moroleón, Guanajuato, Mexico, was born in 1964 and currently resides in Santa Barbara. Before joining Congress, he served on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017.
