Rep. Salud Carbajal, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 24th district, shared his views on various political issues through a series of tweets on January 22, 2025. Carbajal, who has been in office since 2017 after succeeding Lois Capps, addressed topics ranging from campaign finance reform to reproductive rights and constitutional interpretations.
In a tweet posted on January 22, 2025, at 02:01:42 UTC, Rep. Carbajal criticized the influence of Citizens United on Republican priorities. He stated: “Thanks to Citizens United, Republicans put their donors’ profits over people time and time again.” He argued that Republicans prioritize tax breaks for wealthy individuals and corporations over addressing rising prices and called for reform with the hashtag #EndCitizensUnited.
Later that day at 16:02:16 UTC, Carbajal reflected on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. In his tweet he noted: “As we reflect on this 52nd #RoevWade anniversary, the third without Roe, the need for nationwide protection of the right to abortion is evident.” He expressed pride in his collaboration with @ReproCaucus to restore and protect reproductive freedom.
In another post made at 21:39:19 UTC on the same day, Carbajal addressed President Trump regarding citizenship rights under the Constitution. He quoted part of the Fourteenth Amendment stating: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States…are citizens.” Carbajal emphasized that constitutional provisions take precedence over executive orders by stating “Constitution beats Executive Order – every single time.”
