U.S. Representative Salud Carbajal, who has represented California’s 24th district in Congress since 2017, posted a series of messages on social media between August 18 and August 20, 2025, addressing voting rights, scientific achievement at his alma mater, and immigration reform.

On August 18, Carbajal marked the anniversary of women’s suffrage in the United States by stating: “105 years ago today, the 19th Amendment was ratified, securing American women the right to vote. We honor the trailblazers who fought for equality and recommit to protecting and expanding voting rights for all.”

The following day, he congratulated his alma mater after a major research grant award: “Congratulations to @ucsantabarbara on receiving a grant through the NSF Use-Inspired Acceleration of Protein Design (NSF USPRD) initiative! With this support, UCSB will use AI technology to find new ways to turn plants into everyday products like fuel and cleaner materials —” Carbajal graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

On August 20, Carbajal addressed immigration policy efforts in Congress: “For far too long, Washington has kicked the can down the road on immigration reform. I’m proud to work with @RepMariaSalazar & @RepEscobar on the bipartisan Dignity Act to modernize our system, support our workforce, and ensure a fair path forward. It’s time to act.”

Salud Carbajal began serving as U.S. Representative for California’s 24th District in 2017 after previously holding office on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017. Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and currently residing in Santa Barbara at age 58, Carbajal has focused much of his legislative work on issues such as voting rights and immigration reform.
