Salud Carbajal, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 24th District since 2017, recently expressed concerns via Twitter regarding the impact of certain federal policies on local educational and medical research institutions, as well as public safety initiatives in his district.
On April 28, 2025, Carbajal posted about challenges posed to higher education by current federal administration policies. “The Trump administration is attacking higher education nationwide. I sat down with the leaders of @SantaBarbaraCC to hear how the assault on education has been impacting students, faculty, and critical research efforts here at home.”
Later that day, on April 28, 2025, Carbajal highlighted the threat to medical research funding. “The Central Coast is a world leader in medical research, but federal funding for these programs is now at risk. I met with UAW 4811, the union for University of California workers, to discuss how Trump’s budget cuts to biomedical and health research funding are harming local.”
On April 29, 2025, Carbajal visited the future site of a local fire department, underscoring his commitment to securing necessary resources for fire safety. “I stopped by the site of the future Santa Margarita Fire Department! We on the Central Coast know how devastating fires can be. That’s why I’m working to secure funding to ensure that Santa Margarita has the resources they need to fight fires and save lives.”
Salud Carbajal, 58, was born in Moroleón, Guanajuato, and has been actively serving his district. Prior to Congress, he was a member of the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree.
