Rep. Salud Carbajal, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 24th district since 2017 and a former Santa Barbara County Supervisor, recently addressed several issues on his Twitter account, including environmental concerns, early childhood education, and community safety.

On May 17, Carbajal reflected on the anniversary of a major environmental incident in California: “11 years ago, the Refugio oil spill caused one of the worst environmental disasters in California’s history. Today, we remember the 2015 Refugio oil spill and reaffirm our strong opposition to the pipeline’s restart. No to Offshore Oil Drilling!”

The following day, he highlighted his early career experience with Head Start programs: “Early in my public service career, I worked with Head Start as a Family Services Advocate and Parent Involvement Coordinator on behalf of Central Coast families. Through my work, I saw firsthand the critical role that Head Start programs play in uplifting kids for future success.”

Later that same day, Carbajal responded to an act of violence at a local religious center: “I’m devastated by the horrific shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, and my heart goes out to the loved ones of the victims. Everyone should be able to practice their religion without fear of violence. Hate has no place in our country, and every American should condemn”

Salud Carbajal was born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and currently resides in Santa Barbara. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1990. Before joining Congress in 2017—replacing Lois Capps—he served over a decade on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors.
