Rep. Salud Carbajal, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 24th district since 2017, expressed his views on several national issues through a series of tweets on June 4 and 5, 2025.
On June 4, Rep. Carbajal criticized an order from the Secretary of Defense concerning the Navy’s decision regarding Harvey Milk. He stated: “Disgraceful. @SecDef is ordering the Navy to erase the legacy of Harvey Milk—an LGBTQ+ trailblazer, a veteran, and a civil rights hero. This isn’t about ‘tradition.’ It’s bigotry, plain and simple.” He emphasized that the country must support those who serve regardless of their background.
Later that day, during a hearing by the Transportation Democrats Committee, Rep. Carbajal questioned the President of the Association of Flight Attendants about DOGE’s budget cuts to the National Weather Service (NWS) and their impact on air travel. He noted Ms. Nelson’s response: “Ms. Nelson made it clear: in a flawed effort to create efficiencies, DOGE created an incredible amount of inefficiency.”
On June 5, Rep. Carbajal addressed economic concerns related to policies supported by former President Trump and GOP members: “The Trump-GOP agenda will increase our national debt by trillions — all while gutting people’s health care and food benefits.” He argued that these actions do not align with what he believes Americans deserve.
Salud Carbajal was born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and currently resides in Santa Barbara. Before joining Congress, he served on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017.
