Rep. Salud Carbajal, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 24th district since 2017, recently shared a series of tweets addressing various national issues and commemorations. The congressman, originally from Moroleón, Guanajuato, and a resident of Santa Barbara, commented on political matters while acknowledging the work of law enforcement.
On May 15, 2025, Carbajal tweeted about a contentious date in recent American history: “Except on January 6th though, right?” This remark appears to allude to the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th.
The following day, May 16, Carbajal criticized actions by former President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security: “Instead of fixing our broken immigration system, Trump’s DHS is planning reality TV shows. Our country deserves serious solutions from serious leaders.” This statement reflects his disapproval of what he perceives as trivial pursuits by federal agencies amid pressing immigration challenges.
Later that same day, Carbajal took to Twitter again during National Police Week to express his support for local law enforcement: “This #NationalPoliceWeek, we honor the law enforcement officers on the Central Coast who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe.” He emphasized his commitment in Congress to ensuring that these officers have adequate resources and training.
Salud Carbajal has been an active member of Congress since succeeding Lois Capps in 2017. Prior to this role, he served on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 until his congressional election.
