Rep. Salud Carbajal, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 24th district, has recently shared a series of tweets addressing various issues concerning the Central Coast and broader national policies. Carbajal, who has been in office since 2017 after succeeding Lois Capps, has expressed his commitment to maintaining an inclusive environment for all communities and critiqued certain administrative actions.

On February 9, 2025, Rep. Carbajal tweeted about his meeting with advocates for the Central Coast’s transgender community. He discussed “the new administration’s attacks on LGBTQI+ individuals” and emphasized his ongoing efforts to ensure that “the Central Coast remains a safe and inclusive place for all.” “Met with advocates for the Central Coast’s transgender community to discuss the new administration’s attacks on LGBTQI+ individuals and the ways we can fight back.”

Later that day, Carbajal commented on political developments at USAID, suggesting that they are indicative of broader intentions affecting public services. He stated: “The coup at USAID was only the start — we know that public education, health care, and other vital funding are next on their list.” He urged people not to take his word alone but pointed out that these intentions have been openly admitted by those involved. “The coup at USAID was only the start — we know that public education, health care, and other vital funding are next on their list.”

On February 10, 2025, Rep. Carbajal criticized some of President Trump’s new policies as both harmful and peculiar. He referenced a Department of Transportation memo indicating grants should be directed towards areas with “high marriage and birth rates,” which he found questionable. During a panel discussion with maritime witnesses regarding this policy direction, he noted their significant silence when questioned about it.“On top of harmful executive actions, some of President Trump’s new policies are just plain ~creepy~.”
