Rep. Salud Carbajal, who represents California’s 24th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used his social media platform to address several national issues, including rising costs of living, impeachment proceedings against a Cabinet Secretary, and immigration enforcement practices.
On January 21, 2026, Carbajal criticized former President Donald Trump and House Republicans for unfulfilled promises regarding the cost of living. He stated: “One year ago, Donald Trump and House Republicans promised costs would go down on Day One. Instead, after a year of reckless policies, life in America is more expensive than ever.
Californians deserve honesty and real solutions, not broken promises.”
The following day, January 22, Carbajal commented on the seriousness of impeachment responsibilities in Congress. He wrote: “Impeachment is a grave constitutional duty — not political theater.
But when a Cabinet Secretary abuses power, lies to Congress, and violates constitutional rights, Congress must act. I am supporting Articles of Impeachment against Sec. Noem.

Later that same day, he voiced opposition to increased funding for federal immigration agencies following reports about enforcement tactics involving minors. Carbajal posted: “ICE detained a 5-year-old kid and used him as bait to capture his parents. This is beyond appalling. Today the House is voting to increase funding for DHS and ICE. I’m a firm NO.” (January 22).
Salud Carbajal has served as the representative for California’s 24th district since 2017 after succeeding Lois Capps; prior to his congressional tenure he was part of the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017 (see https://carbajal.house.gov/about). Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and currently residing in Santa Barbara at age 58, Carbajal graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990.
