Rep. Salud Carbajal, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 24th district since 2017, has expressed his strong opposition to a legislative proposal put forth by former President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans. His recent tweets highlight his concerns about the bill’s impact on American families and the national economy.
On July 3, 2025, Carbajal announced his return to Washington with a firm stance against what he described as Trump’s and the Republicans’ “cruel, disastrous, and reckless ‘One Big Beautiful Bill,'” which he referred to as their “Big Betrayal Bill.” He shared that he was prepared to vote against it and provided additional facts about the bill.
Later that day, Carbajal noted that House Leader Hakeem Jeffries had been holding the House Floor for nearly six hours. He reported that Jeffries was actively criticizing Trump and Congressional Republicans for their budget bill, which he claimed prioritized billionaires over working families. Carbajal emphasized that “Americans deserve to know the truth about this One Big Ugly bill” in his tweet.
In another statement on July 3, Carbajal declared that Trump and Congressional Republicans had successfully passed their “One Big Beautiful Bill.” He described it as a betrayal of American values because it “guts health care, slashes food assistance,” and significantly increases the national debt. He urged readers to read his full statement for more details.
Salud Carbajal has been an active member of Congress since succeeding Lois Capps in 2017. Prior to this role, he served on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017. Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964, Carbajal currently resides in Santa Barbara and holds a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
