Rep. Salud Carbajal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 24th district since 2017, has raised concerns on social media regarding the ongoing Republican-led government shutdown and its effects on veterans and local workers.
On October 3, 2025, Carbajal posted: “This Republican shutdown isn’t just dysfunction in Washington — it’s a direct threat to our veterans.

Two days later, he highlighted the impact of the shutdown on his constituents in California’s Central Coast region: “The Republican shutdown is starting to hit right here at home on the Central Coast.
Thousands of civilian workers at Naval Base Ventura County and Vandenberg Space Force Base are being forced into furloughs or working without pay — while their families and our national security” (October 5, 2025).

Carbajal has represented California’s 24th district since replacing Lois Capps in Congress in 2017. Prior to that, he served as a member of the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017. Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and currently residing in Santa Barbara, Carbajal graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a bachelor’s degree in 1990.
