Rep. Salud Carbajal, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 24th district since 2017, used his social media platform on January 26, 2026, to criticize former President Donald Trump’s tariff policies and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) actions under Secretary Kristi Noem.
In a post from January 26, Carbajal questioned the effectiveness of tariffs imposed during Trump’s administration, stating: “Remember when Trump said tariffs would be ‘easy wins’ and costs would go down? Amazon is raising prices because of his tariffs. And now working families are paying more.”
Later the same day, Carbajal called for the impeachment of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem in two separate posts—one in English and one in Spanish. In the first message he wrote: “DHS under Kristi Noem has shown a complete disregard for human life and the rule of law. These deadly ICE operations must stop, and Secretary Noem must be impeached. Our communities deserve safety not fear.” Nuestras comunidades merecen seguridad,”
Salud Carbajal has represented California’s 24th District since replacing Lois Capps in 2017 and previously served on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017. Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and currently residing in Santa Barbara, Carbajal earned his BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1990.
