Rep. Salud Carbajal, who represents California’s 24th district in the U.S. Congress, has raised concerns on social media about recent federal budget cuts affecting public media and military programs, as well as local law enforcement actions.
On July 18, 2025, Carbajal posted that “Republicans approved President Trump’s request to cut over $1 billion from public media such as NPR and PBS. And to be clear, this funding was previously approved by Congress on a bipartisan basis. Let the record show that Republicans turned their backs on the public radio and”.
Later that day, he addressed impacts of these cuts on educational institutions: “The Trump cuts are now hitting @CalPoly’s ROTC program, which has commissioned 1,400+ officers since the 1950s. I’m demanding answers from Acting Asst. Secretary of the Army Derrick Anderson because these cuts undermine recruitment and hurt our military readiness.”
On July 19, Carbajal commented on law enforcement activities in Santa Barbara County: “Santa Barbara DA Savrnoch is right. These baseless raids don’t make us safer — they tear families apart. I’ll continue demanding transparency and accountability from ICE.”
Salud Carbajal has served in Congress since 2017 after replacing Lois Capps. He previously held office on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017 and earned his degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1990. Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964, Carbajal resides in Santa Barbara.
