Rep. Salud Carbajal, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 24th district since 2017, posted a series of statements on social media addressing former President Donald Trump’s use of government resources, the cost of military actions in Iran, and emergency response efforts to a fire in Cuyama Valley.

On May 19, 2026, Carbajal criticized Trump’s handling of public funds: “It’s no secret that Trump has used his power to unlawfully enrich himself and his allies — including the very people who attacked our Capitol on January 6th. And he’s doing it with taxpayer dollars. This is a slap in the face to Americans who are struggling to buy food, gas,” he wrote.

Later that day, Carbajal addressed transparency regarding military spending: “I asked the Trump administration directly about the cost of the illegal war in Iran. They gave me the runaround. The American people deserve straight answers as to how their tax dollars are being spent.”

On May 20, 2026, Carbajal shifted focus to local concerns with an update on an emergency situation: “My team is closely monitoring the fire in Cuyama Valley, and local emergency response personnel are on the scene. Evacuation orders are in place for parts of the county. Please use the link below to check if you live in the affected area.”

Carbajal has represented California’s 24th District since replacing Lois Capps in 2017 and previously served on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017. Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and currently residing in Santa Barbara at age 58, he graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a BA in 1990.
