Rep. Salud Carbajal, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 24th district since 2017, addressed recent national and international events in a series of posts on social media between October 7 and October 8, 2025.
On October 7, 2025, Carbajal reflected on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, writing, “Today marks the two-year anniversary of Hamas’ horrific October 7th attack. Two years of war have brought unimaginable suffering to Israel and Palestine alike. We continue to mourn the innocent lives lost and pray for the families still waiting for their loved ones to return”.
Later that day, Carbajal commented on the effects of a government shutdown at Burbank Airport. He posted, “Burbank Airport went 6 HOURS without any air traffic controllers — all because of the Republican government shutdown. Republicans should end their extended vacation and work with Democrats on a bipartisan solution that reopens the government and lowers health care costs.”
On October 8, 2025, Carbajal continued to address the shutdown’s consequences for health care access. He stated, ” Republicans chose to shut down the government instead of protecting Americans’ access to affordable health care. If Republicans let the tax credits that make health care more affordable expire, 35,000 people on the Central Coast could see their coverage costs skyrocket.”
Carbajal has represented California’s 24th district in Congress since replacing Lois Capps in 2017 and previously served on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017. Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964, he has lived in Santa Barbara for several years and earned his BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1990.
