On February 15, 2025, Rep. Carbajal congratulated the Santa Barbara International Film Festival for completing its 40th anniversary. He expressed gratitude for their contribution to the arts on the Central Coast by stating, “Congratulations to the Santa Barbara International Film Festival for wrapping up their 40th anniversary festival today! Thank you for 40 years of encouraging the arts here on the Central Coast.”
Later that day, Carbajal addressed concerns regarding Donald Trump’s deportation agenda. He criticized it by highlighting stories of fear experienced by individuals who do not pose a threat to national security or public safety. In his tweet, he remarked, “Don’t be fooled: Donald Trump’s deportation agenda claims to prioritize criminals, but we’re hearing new stories of terror every day from people who pose no risk to national security or public safety.” He also noted that “Californians picked up…include kids, volunteers.”
On February 16, 2025, Rep. Carbajal commented on Elon Musk’s decision to defund anti-cartel programs. He argued that this action would not save taxpayers money but rather shift responsibilities and financial burdens onto local law enforcement as crime and drug issues potentially increase in communities. His tweet stated: “Elon Musk defunding our anti-cartel programs won’t save the Central Coast taxpayers anything. It will just force local law enforcement to pick up the slack, and the tab, as more crime and drugs hit our streets.”
