Rep. Salud Carbajal, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 24th district since 2017, posted several statements on his social media account addressing recent events and commemorations.
On January 6, 2026, Carbajal marked the fifth anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol with a message reflecting on its significance. On this solemn anniversary, we remember the lives lost and the officers who bravely defended our Capitol.

Later that day, Carbajal addressed news about a colleague’s passing: “Saddened to learn of the sudden passing of my colleague, Rep. Doug LaMalfa. While we didn’t always agree on every issue, I greatly valued our years serving together on the Agriculture Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, as well as our bipartisan work on” (January 7, 2026).
On January 7, he commented on a reported incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis: “ICE shot and killed an American civilian in Minneapolis. This is horrifying and a direct result of Trump’s brutal immigration policies, which have inflicted so much chaos and terror nationwide. I’m calling for a full investigation to ensure those responsible are held accountable.”
Carbajal has represented California’s 24th District since succeeding Lois Capps in 2017 and previously served on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017. Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and now residing in Santa Barbara at age 58, he graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a BA in 1990.
