Rep. Salud Carbajal, who has represented California’s 24th District in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing local incidents involving immigration enforcement and wildfire response. Carbajal, who was born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and currently resides in Santa Barbara, highlighted his oversight role as a member of Congress and expressed concern about recent events in Carpinteria.
On July 10, 2025, Carbajal described an attempt to observe an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation targeting farm workers on Casitas Pass Road in Carpinteria. In his post, he stated: “I went to Casitas Pass Road in Carpinteria today after learning ICE was conducting a militarized raid targeting farm workers. As a Member of Congress, I have the right to conduct oversight, but I was denied entry. Here’s what happened.”
The following day, July 11, Carbajal shared further observations regarding the incident. He wrote: “Yesterday in Carpinteria, I witnessed ICE agents using unnecessarily aggressive and militarized tactics against local farm workers and peaceful protesters.
It was appalling. This is not how we keep our communities safe.
As a Member of Congress, I have the legal right to oversee”.
On July 13, Carbajal turned his attention to wildfire containment efforts by visiting the Madre Fire Incident Command alongside Los Padres National Forest personnel, CAL FIRE teams, and Team 8. He acknowledged first responders’ contributions with this message: “Visited the Madre Fire Incident Command with @LosPadresNF, CAL FIRE, and Team 8. Grateful to our incredible first responders for their tireless work.
Thanks to their efforts, the fire is now 77% contained.”
Salud Carbajal graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1990 with a BA degree. Before his tenure in Congress began in 2017—when he succeeded Lois Capps—he served on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017.
