Rep. Salud Carbajal, who represents California’s 24th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media in mid-October 2025 addressing recent international developments, domestic political negotiations, and concerns over press freedom.
On October 14, 2025, Carbajal expressed relief regarding the return of hostages in the Middle East, writing, “After two years of unimaginable suffering and loss, I am deeply grateful and relieved to see the remaining hostages reunited with their families and loved ones. May this moment serve as a turning point toward lasting peace, stability, and a safer future for both Israel and Gaza.”
The following day, October 15, Carbajal commented on ongoing government negotiations in Washington, stating, “I’m in Washington with my @HouseDemocrats colleagues because we’re ready to negotiate a bipartisan solution that reopens the government and saves Americans’ health care. Vacation time is over, @HouseGOP — let’s get back to work.”
On October 16, Carbajal addressed actions taken by the Pentagon under former President Donald Trump’s administration regarding media access: “Trump’s Pentagon has pushed out every major news outlet in America — from CNN to Fox News. This is yet another alarming attack on free speech and transparency. Americans deserve to know what their military is doing and I call on the Trump admin to reverse course immediately.”
Carbajal has served in Congress since 2017 after replacing Lois Capps and previously served on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017. Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964, Carbajal has lived in Santa Barbara for many years and graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
