Rep. Salud Carbajal, who represents California’s 24th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media addressing the government shutdown and recent comments made by former President Donald Trump.
On October 1, 2025, Carbajal announced his office would remain operational despite the government shutdown. He wrote, “Today is #Day1 of the Republican shutdown. My office will remain open to continue serving all those on the Central Coast — so please do not hesitate to contact us for any & all assistance. DC Office: (202) 225-3601 SB Office: (805) 730-1710 SLO Office: (805) 546-8348 Ventura”.
Later that day, he reiterated his position regarding responsibility for the shutdown, stating, “Make no mistake: this is a Republican shutdown.” This post came amid ongoing debates in Congress over federal funding and partisan disagreements leading to a lapse in government operations.
On October 2, Carbajal addressed remarks reportedly made by Donald Trump about military deployment within the United States. He posted, “I joined @RepPatRyanNY and my fellow Democratic veterans in condemning Donald Trump’s alarming remarks to U.S. military officers. Suggesting our troops should be deployed against the American people isn’t just unprecedented and unconstitutional — it’s un-American and dangerous.”
Salud Carbajal has served as a member of Congress since 2017 after succeeding Lois Capps. Before his tenure in Congress, he was part of the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2017. Born in Moroleón, Guanajuato in 1964 and currently residing in Santa Barbara, Carbajal graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990.
