Oregon State secured a walk-off 3-2 victory against Cal Poly on April 12, completing a three-game non-conference baseball sweep at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The No. 7 Beavers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to clinch the win, dropping Cal Poly’s record to 18-16 after nine losses in its last thirteen games.
The outcome concludes a weekend marked by rain delays and interruptions across all three games. Cal Poly had taken a late lead with solo home runs from Dylan Kordic in the fifth inning and Nate Castellon in the sixth, each hitting their second homer of the season. Despite outhitting Oregon State 11-6 and producing several scoring opportunities, including bases loaded in the sixth and runners on second and third in the eighth, strikeouts ended both threats for Cal Poly.
Reliever Nick Bonn held Oregon State scoreless for three innings after taking over from starter Corden Pettey but was charged with the loss after allowing key hits during Oregon State’s final rally. AJ Singer started off Oregon State’s ninth-inning comeback with a single, followed by a walk to Paul Vazquez and an RBI double from Ethan Galloway that tied the game. Easton Talt then delivered a game-winning single past right fielder Kordic.
Cal Poly’s Alejandro Garza continued his strong performance with his third multiple-hit game of the series, raising his batting average to .359 after going eight-for-thirteen over three games. Castellon, Kordic, and Braxton Thomas also contributed two hits each on Sunday while Antonio Castro extended his hitting streak to seven games.
Rain caused delays throughout Friday’s opener as well as Saturday’s contest but did not suspend Sunday’s matchup despite affecting play between innings five through seven.
Looking ahead, Cal Poly will host Pepperdine for a midweek game before traveling for a Big West Conference series against first-place UC San Diego.
