For the first quarter of 2026, Compass Health, Inc. and Compass Holdings, Inc. were listed as the owners of Mission View Health Center, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility operates on a for-profit basis.

During this timeframe, Mission View Health Center earned a CMS overall rating of 5, surpassing California’s average rating for nursing homes, which stands at 3.2. CMS rating criteria include health inspection results, staffing metrics and the quality of resident care.

The report shows Mission View Health Center provided care for an average of 108.6 residents per day, with a capacity of 162 beds. The facility is not affiliated with a hospital.

Mission View Health Center reported no fines or penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

San Luis Obispo County counted seven for-profit nursing homes in total.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the nation’s population of older adults continues to expand as the number of children declines. From 2020 to 2024, the population of Americans 65 and older jumped by 13%, while those under 18 dropped 1.7%. The country’s older adult population has seen substantial growth over the past 100 years, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

Research published in 2021 finds nearly half of this age cohort—about 28 million—will need long-term services and support, with more than a third likely to require nursing home care at some stage.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
