FOIA Request to California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have submitted a request under the California Public Records Act § 6250 et seq. Our inquiry seeks detailed information concerning the university’s Chinese National students. Specifically, we have requested documents or lists that show all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. If this information is protected, we have asked for the total number of such students and a breakdown by department.
Additionally, we seek records detailing any scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. We are particularly interested in identifying recipients of scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Furthermore, we have requested any policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.
This request is made on behalf of SLO Reporter and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As members of the media dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and promoting transparency, access to these records is vital for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We believe this qualifies us for a fee waiver as media professionals.
