The City of Paso Robles announced on April 9 that it will remove a beehive from the north side of the Carnegie Library in downtown City Park on Wednesday, April 15.
The removal is necessary due to the hive’s location near both the playground and the library, requiring a closed work area that includes both spaces. The city said this measure is intended to ensure public safety during and after the operation.
A highly qualified beekeeper will carry out the hive removal with assistance from city staff. The bees will be relocated to a safe area away from public spaces. Work is scheduled to begin in the morning and should take about four to five hours.
“Out of concern for public safety, the playground and the surrounding area around the Carnegie Library will remain closed for the rest of the day to allow any remaining bees to disperse,” city officials said.
The city emphasized its commitment to protecting local plants and animals while prioritizing community safety. “Safety of park visitors and the community remains the primary concern, and removal will be conducted following best practices,” officials said.
