Cal Poly announced on May 12 that juniors Chris Caudillo and Jordan Jackson have been named the Big West Men’s and Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, respectively. This marks the first time either athlete has received a weekly award from the Big West Conference.
The recognition comes after strong performances by both athletes at recent competitions. Caudillo earned his honor following a standout run in the men’s 1,500-meter at the Franson Last Chance meet, where he finished with a time of 3:35.13. This result broke both Cal Poly’s school record set in 2024 and a Big West record that had stood for 48 years. His time is currently ranked third fastest in the West Region this season, eighth in Division I, and twenty-fifth fastest in collegiate history.
Jackson was recognized after nearly matching her personal best in the women’s 800-meter event at the same meet, finishing with a time of 2:08.91—just .39 seconds off her lifetime best—and placing fifteenth overall. She is currently ranked sixth in the Big West for the 400 meters and tied for ninth in the conference for the 800 meters.
This is also notable as it is Cal Poly’s first sweep of both men’s and women’s weekly track awards since May 13, 2025.
Cal State Bakersfield’s Javier Toro and CSUN’s Katherine Shipp-Davis were named Men’s and Women’s Field Athletes of the Week to complete this season’s final round of conference awards.
Looking ahead, Cal Poly will compete at Long Beach State during this weekend’s Big West Championships at Jack Rose Track. Last year, Cal Poly men secured their second program title while women narrowly missed repeating as champions.
