The Cal Poly women’s tennis team is set to play its first home match of the season and open Big West Conference play against UC Davis at the Ronca Tennis Center on Sunday at 11 a.m. Admission to the event is free, and live scoring will be available online. Fans are encouraged to follow the team’s social media accounts for updates during the match.
Cal Poly, currently holding a 0-2 record, is seeking its first win after losses in San Diego last week. Senior Kennedy Buntrock was recognized as Big West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week following her recent performances. She achieved a 2-0 record in singles and went 1-1 in doubles matches against BYU and University of San Diego. Her straight sets victory over San Diego’s Hannah Read marked her first career win over a ranked singles opponent.
UC Davis enters with a 2-4 overall record, having secured shutout wins against Pacific and Jessup last weekend. The Aggies lost their Big West opener to UC Santa Barbara with a score of 6-1. Last season, Cal Poly defeated UC Davis 6-1 in Davis and leads the all-time series 20-9.
This matchup marks the beginning of a five-match homestand for Cal Poly, which will also host Boise State on Friday and Saint Mary’s on Sunday, February 8.
