Cal Poly women’s basketball falls to UC Riverside in Big West matchup

Cal Poly women’s basketball lost to UC Riverside 63–46 on Saturday at SRC Arena in their second Big West game of the season.

The Mustangs started strong, leading 10–2 early and holding a 14–6 advantage after the first quarter. UC Riverside came back in the second quarter, outscoring Cal Poly 19–7 and taking a 25–21 lead into halftime.

Cal Poly shot 28.6 percent from the field and made 35 percent of their three-point attempts. UC Riverside extended its lead during the third quarter and maintained control for the rest of the game, despite Cal Poly limiting them to just 11 points in the final period.

Sophomore guard Charish Thompson led Cal Poly with 11 points in 30 minutes. Vanessa McManus and Madison Butcher each scored eight points, while the Mustang bench added a total of 16 points.

Cal Poly will return to non-conference play for four games, beginning next Saturday, December 13, when they host Idaho State at Mott Athletics Center at 2 p.m.
