Cal Poly women’s basketball secured a 59-31 victory over Chapman University on Monday night in San Luis Obispo. The Mustangs’ defense played a key role, holding Chapman to 18 percent shooting from the field and forcing 24 turnovers.
Sophomore guard Vanessa McManus led Cal Poly with 14 points. McManus was also recognized as the Big West Player of the Week on Monday. Sophomore Avery Knapp contributed nine points to the win.
The game remained close in the first quarter, tied at 10-10 before Cal Poly finished with a six-point run. In the second quarter, the Mustangs expanded their lead, at one point going up by 20 points. During the third quarter, Cal Poly limited Chapman to just five points while increasing their advantage.
Cal Poly’s next game is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 4, when they begin Big West Conference play at home against Cal State Fullerton.
