The Cal Poly track and field team secured seven event victories during the Fresno State Invitational, which concluded on May 2 at Buchanan High’s Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, California.
The event marked the penultimate weekend of regular season competition for the Mustangs, with a total of 40 athletes participating. The team demonstrated strong performances across both days of competition.
On Friday’s opening day at Warmerdam Field, freshman Golda Demby achieved the second-best mark in school history for the women’s hammer throw with a distance of 188 feet, 3 inches (57.39 meters). Travis Martin set a facility record in the men’s hammer throw with a mark of 231 feet, 10 inches (70.68 meters).
Saturday saw sophomore Ava Simos run a personal best of 11.67 seconds in the women’s 100-meter dash to place third and improve her No. 6 time in school history. Simos also contributed to Cal Poly’s third-fastest all-time finish in the women’s 4×100-meter relay alongside Desie Armstrong, Cadence Roy-Williams, and Tayhlore Hoagland.
The Cal Poly women claimed three event wins: Taylor Hofland took first place in shot put (47-7), Camrenne Genilla won javelin (151-11), and Lexi Evans secured victory in pole vault (13-8.25). In addition, Kalia Estes recorded a lifetime best to finish second in the women’s 400 hurdles with one minute and .71 seconds—the twelfth-fastest time ever for Cal Poly.
