Cal Poly’s baseball team will play its first NCAA Super Regional this weekend, with games scheduled against No. 16 seed West Virginia on Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m. PDT inside Kendrick Family Ballpark at the Monongalia County Baseball Complex, according to a June 2 announcement.
Both games will be broadcast on ESPN2, and if a third game is necessary in the best-of-three series, it will take place Sunday with broadcast details to be announced. All games are also set to air on ESPN Radio (1280 AM and 101.7 FM) with Chris Sylvester, Max Kelton, and Eric Burdick providing commentary. The pregame show begins 15 minutes before first pitch.
Cal Poly (39-22) advanced after winning the Los Angeles Regional hosted by UCLA last weekend. The Mustangs went undefeated in three games, defeating Virginia Tech 6-2 and Saint Mary’s twice by scores of 14-1 and 5-2.
West Virginia (43-15) secured its spot by winning four out of five games in the Morgantown Regional, including a ten-inning win over Kentucky after giving up a late lead. The Mountaineers finished second both in the Big 12 tournament—where Kansas defeated them for the championship—and during regular season conference play.
In program history, Cal Poly has appeared in five NCAA regionals since joining Division I thirty-two years ago. Their playoff runs include back-to-back appearances in 2013–14 and again during the past two seasons. The Mustangs have won four Big West titles: regular season championships in 2014 and this year, as well as conference tournament victories last year and this year. West Virginia earned its sixteenth regional berth this season.
A spot in the Men’s College World Series at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha is at stake for both teams next weekend.
