The Cal Poly softball team will begin its 52nd varsity season with five games at the NorCal Kickoff, taking place from February 6 to 8. The event is co-hosted by Sacramento State and UC Davis. The Mustangs return six positional starters and 13 letterwinners from last spring as they embark on a 49-game regular season.
Cal Poly’s first game is scheduled for Friday, February 6 against Colorado State at 9:30 a.m., followed by a matchup with San Diego at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday, February 7, the team will face Saint Mary’s at 9:30 a.m. and Sacramento State at 2:30 p.m. The tournament concludes for Cal Poly on Sunday, February 8 with a noon rematch against San Diego. All games except Friday afternoon’s contest against San Diego will be played at Sacramento State; that matchup will take place at UC Davis.
This marks Cal Poly’s second appearance in the NorCal Kickoff. In their previous participation in 2024, the Mustangs won all five of their games.
Live statistics for all five games will be available through GoPoly.com.
Historically, Cal Poly leads its series against each of its upcoming opponents. Against Colorado State, the Mustangs have an 11-6 record but lost their most recent meeting on February 14, 2025. They hold a dominant lead over San Diego (14-3), including a nine-inning win in their last encounter on February 24, 2023. Cal Poly has also won its last five matchups with Saint Mary’s and leads that series 37-4 since their first meeting in March 1985. Against Sacramento State, the Mustangs are ahead in the all-time series (44-39) despite losing two out of three games last season.
Head coach Jenny Condon enters her 22nd year leading the program and is approaching several milestones. She is recognized as “the first and only female head coach in Big West history to coach 1,000 games at a member program in any sport.” Condon needs just “14 more victories to become the sixth coach in conference history to reach 500 career wins.” She currently ranks sixth in Big West history with both “486 total victories and 210 conference wins.” Condon has been named Big West Coach of the Year four times and has contributed to “41 percent of the program’s 1,196 all-time victories.”
Following the NorCal Kickoff, Cal Poly will participate in Stanford’s DeMarini Invitational from February 13 to 15. There they are set to play four games—three against nationally ranked teams—including No.18 Stanford and No.5 Oregon.
