Cal Poly will conclude its longest road trip of the 2026 baseball season on May 12, facing Fresno State in the final of three midweek contests between the teams. The Mustangs have already won both previous meetings this year, with scores of 13-3 and 10-4.
The matchup is scheduled for a 5:05 p.m. start at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium and will be streamed on the Mountain West Network. Cal Poly currently holds a record of 29-21 after taking two out of three games against Cal State Fullerton over the weekend, tying them for first place in the Big West Conference alongside UC Santa Barbara. Fresno State enters the contest with a record of 14-34-1 and sits last in its conference following a series loss to UNLV.
With their recent success, Cal Poly has secured either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed for next week’s Big West tournament at UC Irvine and will wrap up regular season play by hosting Long Beach State later this week. The Mustangs have won eight out of nine Big West series this year and are currently hitting .303 as a team through fifty games, which leads their conference.
Several players have contributed to Cal Poly’s strong offensive performance: shortstop Nate Castellon leads with a .348 average, while third baseman Alejandro Garza has accumulated nineteen doubles and forty-three RBIs across twenty-three multiple-hit games. Catcher Ryan Tayman also stands out with fifteen home runs and forty-nine RBIs.
On Tuesday, sophomore left-hander Luke Kalfsbeek is set to start for Cal Poly after previously holding Fresno State scoreless over two innings in their first meeting this season. Freshman right-hander Jordan Haver will start for Fresno State; he previously pitched two innings against Cal Poly without earning a decision.
Historically, Fresno State holds an all-time advantage in head-to-head matchups since their series began in 1945 but Cal Poly has won thirty-one of the last forty-three meetings between these programs. Head coach Larry Lee recently earned his twelve-hundredth career victory on May 3 during his tenure spanning both Cal Poly and Cuesta College.
