The Cal Poly track and field program swept the Big West Field Athlete of the Week awards, according to an April 7 announcement.

Travis Martin was named the Big West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Lexi Evans earned the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honor. This marks the first time since March 15, 2022 that Cal Poly has won both men’s and women’s field athlete weekly awards in the same week.

Martin secured his second men’s field athlete award in three weeks after winning the men’s hammer throw at the Stanford Invitational. He achieved a lifetime best throw of 242 feet, 2 inches (73.82 meters), which currently ranks first in both conference and region standings, second nationally among Division I athletes, and twenty-eighth globally for this outdoor season. Martin improved his personal record three times during competition, with his top mark coming on his final attempt. The result is also noted as fifth best by an American this year and further strengthens his No. 2 spot in school history by more than two feet.

A Mustang has now claimed three out of five Big West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors awarded so far this outdoor season; Conrad Bernstein previously received recognition on March 10. For Martin, this is his third career win for this distinction and first since April 30 last year.

Evans became Cal Poly’s first women’s field athlete honoree since she last won it on March 25, 2025. She took first place in pole vault at Stanford with a height of 13 feet, 11.75 inches—currently leading all competitors in conference rankings while standing ninth regionally and fourteenth nationwide for Division I athletes this season. Evans is a two-time conference champion who holds both indoor and outdoor school records; she recently placed twelfth at NCAA Indoor Championships to earn Second Team All-American status.

The Mustangs will compete next week across several events: Mt. SAC Relays hosted by Mt. San Antonio College from Thursday through Saturday; Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific during those same days; and Beach Invitational at Long Beach State Friday through Saturday.
