The Cal Poly Mustangs women’s volleyball team has secured a spot in the Los Angeles Regional for their 18th NCAA Tournament appearance. The team, which finished the season with a 25-7 overall record and a 14-4 mark in the Big West Conference, will compete against BYU in the first round. The regional field also includes host and No. 4 seed USC, as well as Princeton.
The announcement was made during the NCAA Selection Show, where fans, coaches, and players gathered at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex to learn about their placement. The Mustangs were placed in the fourth and final quadrant revealed by the selection committee.
Cal Poly earned its tournament berth by winning the Big West Championship. Their opening match is scheduled for December 4 at USC’s Galen Center. If successful, they would advance to play on December 5.
The Mustangs last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2019 and have an all-time record of 15 wins and 17 losses across previous appearances. Their most recent tournament win came that same year against Georgia before being eliminated by Stanford.
In historical matchups with BYU, Cal Poly trails with six wins to BYU’s eleven. The teams last met in 2016, resulting in a loss for Cal Poly when BYU was ranked No. 16 nationally. Cal Poly’s last victory over BYU was recorded in 2010 under then-coach Jon Stevenson.
