Cal Poly Mustangs women’s volleyball team has won the Big West Conference Championship, earning an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Mustangs, seeded second, defeated top-seeded UC Davis with a 3-1 victory (25-16, 25-21, 20-25, 25-15) in Long Beach, California.
Chloe Leluge led Cal Poly’s performance during the tournament. She committed just one error on 57 attacks for a .561 hitting percentage and recorded a team-high 33 kills. Her efforts earned her the title of Big West Championship MVP.
This win marks Cal Poly’s first automatic qualification to the NCAA Tournament since 2019 and its seventh overall conference title during its Division I era. The program will make its seventeenth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The match started with both teams exchanging leads until Cal Poly went on a decisive run fueled by Kendall Beshear’s serves, resulting in a first-set win at 25-16. In the second set, defensive contributions from Emma Fredrick, Ella Scott, and Beshear helped keep UC Davis’ offense below a .200 hitting percentage for the second consecutive set as Cal Poly secured another win at 25-21.
UC Davis took control early in the third set and managed to claim it after a series of rallies despite Cal Poly nearly closing the gap. The Aggies won that frame 25-20.
In the fourth set, Cal Poly established momentum after leading at the media timeout and extended their advantage following UC Davis’ final timeout. They closed out the match—and championship—with a dominant finish at 25-15.
The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. PT. To mark their entry into the tournament and learn about their next opponent, Cal Poly’s women’s volleyball team will host a watch party at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex.
